Pope Leo XIV spent a peaceful night in a Rome hospital after undergoing successful surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his right lung. While doctors continue to conduct additional tests to assess his health, in light of an approach of transparency regarding his health that differs from the traditions of secrecy that have long prevailed within the Vatican. The current health problem represents the first major illness faced by Pope Leo since his election some 17 months ago.
