Niger: Oil flow causes an "extremely dangerous" environmental disaster and an investigation is launched with the help of Algerian experts

A major influx of oil and gas in a remote desert region of eastern Niger has led to an "extremely serious" environmental accident, the energy ministry announced Monday. Footage broadcast on state television's evening news showed crude oil shooting several meters in the air, while an oil slick stretched hundreds of meters on the ground. She explained that "the full causes of the accident have not yet been determined", while the authorities have launched an investigation with the help of "Algerian experts".
