Indian police arrested more than 2,000 protesters, including Cockroach Party founder Abhijeet Debki and two prominent leaders, in New Delhi on Saturday as security forces imposed lockdown measures in parts of the capital to prevent a rally demanding the resignation of Election Commission chief Gyanesh Kumar. These developments come at the height of a growing protest wave taking place in India, amid an election review that led to the removal of approximately 130 million names from voter lists, amid mutual accusations between the opposition and the ruling party and international concern.
