Ethiopia and Eritrea cut off diplomatic relations amid escalating fighting in Tigray
Ethiopia announced that it would expel ten Eritrean diplomats who "pose a direct threat to Ethiopia's national security", and that it would close its embassy in Asmara. The Eritrean Foreign Ministry, for its part, said that "it has no choice but to respond in kind and sever all diplomatic relations with Ethiopia." Ethiopia accuses Eritrea of supporting rebels in the Tigray People's Liberation Front, at a time when fighting continues in the north of the country.
