More than 8,000 confirmed Ebola cases have been recorded in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Government data published on Monday showed that the number of confirmed Ebola virus cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo exceeded 8,000 for the first time since the beginning of the ongoing epidemic in the Central African country. This outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, has become the largest and deadliest in Congo's history after surpassing the averages between 2018 and 2020.
