Mexico's Saul Alvarez defeated France's Christian Mabili to win the World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight title. The fight in Riyadh ended in a unanimous decision. As part of the same tournament, Nikita Zon of Russia lost to Jaime Monguia of Mexico in the battle for the WBA belt.
