In September 2026, Russian banks issued 1.42 million new credit cards, which is 3.8% less than in August, Izvestia writes, citing NBKI data. The total volume of approved limits for them decreased by 9.3% and amounted to 149.2 billion rubles. Experts attribute the cooling of the market to the high financing cost of the credit institutions, as well as to the stringent macro-prudential requirements of the central bank for the debt burden of the borrowers.
