The Shanghai spot copper premium jumped to 1,900 yuan ($285) a tonne above futures, hitting the highest since 2021, Bloomberg reported. The shortage of physical metal in China is caused by a decline in production at domestic plants and limited supplies from abroad, including Russia and Africa. Against this background, December copper futures are trading at a premium of $880 a tonne to January contracts, the sharpest gap since 2022.
