American McMorran will invest $4.5 billion in the expansion of the Baghdad copper mine in Arizona, reports Bloomberg. The project will more than double production volumes, making the site the second largest copper mine in the US by 2030. Investments in an operational plant are related to the growing demand for the metal against the background of the development of energy networks and data centers, as well as the complexity of exploring new deposits.
