Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda has announced plans to discuss raising interest rates to 1.5% at a meeting in December, Reuters reports. The regulator continues to tighten the monetary policy against the backdrop of the acceleration of core inflation, which reached 2.1% in September against the target level of 2%. At the same time, the continuation of the course of the rate remains uncertain: according to the internal estimates of the central bank, the neutral level, which does not slow down or stimulate the economy, is in a wide range of 1.1% to 2.5%.
