In October, electricity generation from coal-fired power plants in India increased by 25.7% year-on-year - the fastest growth rate in three years, Reuters reports. The increase in coal production was caused by a 26% decrease in hydroelectric power production due to a lack of precipitation and high demand from industry. Total electricity production in the country increased by 21.1%, to 172.53 billion kWh, and the share of coal in the energy balance reached 71.7%.
