The US Federal Trade Commission, along with 20 states, filed a lawsuit against the discount chain Dollar General for systematically inflating the prices at the registers compared to the price tags on the shelves, writes the Wall Street Journal. According to the case materials, from January 2023 to March 2026, the company received more than 29,000 complaints from customers about discrepancies in the cost of goods. The retailer denies the allegations of intentional violations, and attributes the discrepancies to operational difficulties in regularly updating paper price tags.
