The African Export-Import Bank and the Organization of African Petroleum Producers have officially launched the African Energy Bank with a registered capital of $5 billion, Bloomberg reports. A new financial institution has been formed to support oil and gas projects on the continent as traditional lenders pull back from financing fossil fuel production. The founders estimate that Africa's investment needs in the energy sector are about 200 billion dollars.
