The Italian banking group Inta Sanpaolo will take over the world's oldest bank Monte dei Paschi di Siena for 33 billion euros, Reuters reports. The deal was made possible after the shareholders rejected a takeover protection plan proposed by the management of the credit institution. As part of the restructuring, half of the bank's 1,200 branches and the bank's headquarters in Siena will be sold to the insurance company Unipol, which will merge them with its regional unit BPER under the historical brand.
