State-owned Qatar Energy is buying long-term quantities of LNG from the US and other suppliers to create a trade hedge in case the Strait of Hormuz is blocked, Reuters reports. According to the head of the company, Saad Sharida Al-Kaabi, if the route is closed, gas prices in the world will rise sharply, and the strategy will allow Qatar to compensate for losses from possible interruptions in its export supply.
