The European Union needs to draw at least 35 billion euros into the budget for 2028-2034 to pay interest on a loan previously issued to Ukraine, Politico reports. If rates rise by 1%, the amount of payments will increase to 41.9 billion euros. Specific funding sources have yet to be identified, with Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Bulgaria already refusing to pay the cost of servicing future state loans.
