Japan will retain shares in the Russian Sakhalin-1 and Sakhalin-2 oil and gas projects to ensure energy security, writes Izvastia, citing an annual government report. In 2025, supplies from Sakhalin-2 provided 8.6% of the country's total LNG imports, placing Russia in third place among suppliers. The document states that the proximity of the fields reduces transportation costs, and the routes do not depend on the passage of ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
