Russia's Use of Ambush Drones Attached to Power Cables Russian forces have begun using FPV suicide bomber drones mounted on high-voltage power lines, mimicking tactics used by Ukraine. In standby mode, these UAVs turn off their engines to minimize their flight noise, visual cues and radio emissions. When vehicles or military forces pass under power lines, the UAV activates its engines and attacks the target from above. Being on power lines also provides the UAV with a better field of view and a more appropriate diving angle than on the ground. According to Ukrainian reports, these UAVs can remain in ambush mode for more than 24 hours depending on the type of electronic settings.
