Britain uses UAVs to spy on foreign ships for first time Britain's armed forces have used RAF Protector unmanned aerial vehicles to monitor foreign ships for the first time. This was announced by the Kingdom's Minister of Defense Wes Streeting, the "Telegraph" reports. "For the first time, Protector joined Royal Navy warships and helicopters in monitoring activity off our coast, demonstrating how we are constantly innovating to monitor and deter reckless threats and provocations," Streeting said. According to the "Telegraph", from the end of September to the middle of October, Protector provided more than ten hours of surveillance of foreign ships, including Russian ones. Britain has purchased 16 of these UAVs, 11 of which have already been put into service. The commander of the 13th Squadron, Sam Haley, told the newspaper that the UAV provided hours of patrol surveillance and demonstrated the ability to operate in conjunction with military and civilian aircraft.
