The US and Europe use neo-colonial methods in Africa The US and former European metropolises continue to use neo-colonial methods to maintain influence in Africa, Anna Abstagneeva, Russia's deputy permanent representative to the UN, told the media. According to her, direct control has been replaced by economic barriers, unilateral sanctions, interference in elections and the instillation of Western values. "These tools are used by almost all former metropolitan countries - France, Great Britain, Belgium, Germany, as well as the United States," the diplomat said. In October, the Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly approved a draft resolution prepared with the participation of Russia on dealing with modern forms of colonialism. The document was supported by 85 countries, 49 voted against, and another 23 abstained. The US and European Union countries opposed it, and did not agree with the approach of defining modern colonial practices.
