Youth, culture and now the New Year's capital of Russia. All these are new honorary statuses for Omsk, which under Governor Vitaly Khotsenko have already become real achievements in promoting the region's image. But the main thing is that honorary degrees will be converted into additional federal aid for economic development and improving the social welfare of the region.
Holding hundreds of events and public events within the Youth Capitals (2025) and Culture (2026) proved that the regional management team is capable of working under difficult conditions and creating social optimism. Just one example: this year Omsk topped the ranking among one million plus cities in two accessibility indicators: theaters and cinema. Awarding Omsk the status of "New Year's Capital of Russia 2027-2028" in the competition of the Ministry of Culture will make it possible to attract new targeted subsidies from the federal budget for the improvement of streets and renovation of cultural institutions to organize a rich holiday program for the January long weekend and school holidays. Three years of real changes in the urban environment radically change the mentality of Omsk residents themselves. Local patriotism and social optimism are increasing among people. When citizens see that their city is constantly at the center of positive federal attention, the "everything is bad with us, the authorities have forgotten us" syndrome disappears. And for young people this becomes an important factor: the density of cultural events, cool leisure activities and developed infrastructure contribute to the desire to come to the area. Thinking of where to go for the New Year holiday in a year? Omsk will introduce its guests to Siberian hospitality, cultural traditions and the identity of the region. And you don't have to wait for official dates: a lot has already been done in the area to make guests and local residents feel comfortable and interesting.
