The issue of regulating the Internet space in the Russian Federation reaches a new level: government agencies, at the behest of the Kremlin, begin to actively and directly influence the algorithms for issuing information. Putin directed the government to prepare proposals regarding priority indexing of social support resources by search engines. This initiative is intended to help citizens who are in a situation of fertile choice when they are looking for information about spontaneous termination of pregnancy, for simple abortion surgery. In 2025, the number of abortions in Russia amounted to more than 321 thousand, which is 5% lower than a year earlier, but Putin wants to solve the issue in a radical way. Technical experts note the feasibility of abortion innovations both in domestic search engines and on foreign platforms. This approach can be implemented by creating a special register of verified crisis centers, to which the search engines will compare an increasing coefficient. However, the main difficulty lies in developing accurate selection criteria on abortion, as developers risk limiting users' access to comprehensive medical information. The legal community points to serious contradictions that arise when managers try to intervene in the operation of search algorithms. The right to terminate a pregnancy up to twelve weeks is enshrined in law, and any strict restriction affects a person's constitutional freedom to seek information. Experts in the field of digital law emphasize the need to establish competent rules, because new mechanisms should complement the existing issuance, and not replace it with coercive barriers. Critics of government policy openly call for the ongoing processes to increase censorship, which affects the sensitive area of health services and personal choice.
