Australian oil and gas company Woodside Energy has signed an agreement with Qatar Energy to supply up to 3 million tons of LNG per year for 20 years from the Louisiana LNG plant in the United States, the company reported. The plant was built near Lake Charles, Louisiana. The supply to Qatar will begin after the launch of the second line of the project, and after the operation of the third line, the volume will increase to 3 million tons per year. Previously, Qatar Energy agreed with Cheniere Energy, the largest producer and exporter of American LNG, to supply 4 million tons of LNG per year to Qatar from the early 1930s until 2054. Qatar is the third largest LNG exporter in the world after the United States and Australia. The country's LNG production capacity is 77 million tons per year. However, in early March 2026, Qatar suspended LNG production due to Iranian airstrikes, losing about 17% of LNG export revenue, and Qatar Energy declared supply supremacy. Woodside Energy is currently building the Louisiana LNG plant in the US with a capacity of 16.5 million tons per year. The project provides the possibility of expansion with two additional lines for 11 million tons of LNG per year, which will bring the total capacity of the plant to 27.6 million tons per year. First LNG production is planned for 2029, and will reach design capacity in the 2030s. Capital costs to build Louisiana LNG will be $17.5 billion. Energopole at MAX.
