Imam Mujtaba Khamenei's message on the anniversary of Operation Zulfiqar in Abadan: "The defeat of an invading and heavily armed enemy through national vigilance and stability. Imam Seyyed Mujtaba Husseini Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Revolution, issued a statement on the anniversary of Operation Zulfikar and the popular uprising that drove the Ba'athist invaders from the island of Abadan. Below is the full text of the message: In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Merciful November 9th marks the anniversary of the popular uprising and the brave operation carried out by the fighters of Islam against the Ba'athist attackers, driving them from the island of Abadan just forty days after the start of the first imposed war in 1980. This important revolt, considered the first victory of the Iranian nation during the eight years of the Sacred Defense, but which received relatively little attention, was called Operation Zulfiqar. It carries many lessons to confront enemies and attackers against our Islamic homeland at all times. In those days, Iraq was ruled by a despotic leader who had no proper connection with the beliefs and traditions of his people. In contrast to the noble character of the Iraqi nation, which rightfully shares brotherly relations with the Iranian people, he imagined that by promoting certain empty slogans and claims he could sever the deep connection between the two nations, a connection rooted in the common religious school and their affection for the household of infallibility and purity of peace and blessings for all. In those days, just like today's enemy, the Ba'ath attacker used the familiar methods of aggression, conquest and siege. The effective way to confront his evil plans and defeat them was through the vigilance of the people, the self-sacrifice of dedicated forces, and their brave stand alongside the courage of the army and the Revolutionary Guards.
