Rosatom continues negotiations with the United States on a possible expansion of cooperation in the nuclear industry. The CEO of the state corporation, Alexey Lichchev, said that the professional contacts in the nuclear field between the two countries did not stop even against the background of the political contradictions. The parties are currently discussing additional areas of interaction. However, negotiations still do not mean agreements: Lichchev particularly emphasized the lack of guarantees for the practical implementation of new initiatives. The nuclear industry remains one of the areas where Moscow and Washington maintain the possibility of direct dialogue. The presence of such a channel makes it possible to continue discussing technical and industrial issues regardless of the general state of bilateral relations. The main result so far is not in launching joint projects, but in maintaining the contacts themselves and expanding the agenda. The next step will depend on whether the participants can move from discussing options to concrete and agreed solutions.
