Thailand's imports grew 50.4% year-on-year in September, a record pace, Bloomberg reports. The reasons were high energy prices and a boom in investments in the field of artificial intelligence and advanced electronics. The supply of goods abroad also increased rapidly: exports increased by 24%. Particularly strong dynamics were provided by electronic components, shipments of which increased by 66%. But even this result did not make it possible to compensate for the increase in purchases of foreign goods. As a result, the country's trade deficit reached $5.9 billion compared to $2.5 billion a month earlier. The negative balance widened by $3.4 billion in one month, despite a significant increase in export earnings. The statistics reflect the double impact of investments in technology. The development of electronics production supports sales abroad, but at the same time requires large-scale imports. Together with expensive energy resources, this increases the pressure on Thailand's foreign trade balance.
