Slovakia will ask the European Commission for a transition period for Russian gas supplies after 2027. Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Tibor Gaspar said that a complete refusal of supply is against the interests of the republic and threatens its energy security. At the same time, Bratislava is challenging the regulation on the gradual ban on the import of Russian energy resources in the Court of Justice of the European Union. Bratislava demands that the document be cancelled, challenging not only the timing, but also the legal basis of the pan-European ban. The dispute concerns the practical side of EU energy policy: a single ban should apply to countries with different supply conditions. Slovakia insists that its needs cannot be subjected to a general schedule without taking into account national risks. Therefore, Bratislava is using two pressure tools at the same time - a request for a delay from the European Commission and a judicial appeal. The results of this confrontation will determine whether the country will retain the ability to purchase Russian gas after the deadline.
