The Kremlin criticized the European Union for delaying the appointment of a special representative for negotiations on Ukraine. Dmitry Peskov called the delay unconstructive. Moscow would welcome such a mediator if it is truly interested in peace. According to Politico, among the possible candidates being discussed are the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Council Antonio Costa, the head of European diplomacy Kaia Kalas and the President of Finland Alexander Staab. Therefore, the question remains at the level of choosing a figure who can represent the European side in the negotiations on the Ukrainian settlement. The list of candidates includes senior politicians, but there is no agreed decision on the appointment. Moscow ties its willingness to welcome such a channel of negotiations with the representative's own position. While the EU has not decided on a candidate, the dispute about who and under what conditions will be able to participate in the talks remains open.
