Politician Dmitry Gudkov - on Novaya Gazeta "For me, "new" are people with whom we have been together for many years. Here is one of the stories that is important to me. In 2012 we tried to stop the "Bastard Act", which prohibited Americans from adopting Russian orphans. Many children were seriously ill, the law literally killed them. Novaya Gazeta then collected more than 100,000 signatures to cancel it. I invited Dmitry Muratov to a meeting of my State Duma Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building to present a petition. We wanted to bring it to the plenary session, but the committee rejected the proposal. Then Ilya Ponomarev and Larry Zubov, based on a petition from Nubia, introduced a bill to the State Duma to repeal this cannibalistic law. We understood that there was no chance, but we felt that we were obliged to do everything in our power to protect the children that the authorities had become hostages of political revenge. 14 years have passed. Today the same government is destroying Nova Gazeta itself. I am proud that we were and continue to be together. Dear friends from Nova, thank you for your work. I'm sure this is not the end of the story."
