The US wants to cut off Iran's supply routes on land and in the Caspian Sea.

The US military plans to establish a 20-person unit to prevent the delivery of arms and other sanctioned goods to Iran via land and the Caspian Sea. The new task force "will further limit Iran's ability to finance terrorism, rebuild its weapons factories and arm its military," Brad Cooper, commander of the US Central Middle East Command (CENTCOM), said on X social media.

In turn, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said Washington's new initiative "will fail." "The USA will never be able to establish an economic blockade, which they are trying to implement under different names and with the help of different programs," the Fars news agency quotes Revolutionary Guards spokesman Hossein Mohabi.

During the war against Iran, the United States imposed a blockade on Iranian seaports. In response, Tehran restricted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important routes for international maritime trade. This led to problems in the supply of oil and gas around the world, as well as to an increase in prices. According to CENTCOM, the blockade of Iran's ports prevented the export of Iranian oil worth about 22.4 billion euros.
