The International Ice Hockey Federation does not agree with the CAS decision to allow the Russian national teams to participate in the World Championships. The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), after consultations regarding Russia's return to international tournaments, stated that it intends to maintain all possible options for further actions. The federation emphasized that it still does not agree with the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which decided to admit the Russian teams to the World Championship, despite the ongoing war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. At the same time, the IIHF announced its willingness to comply with the requirements set forth in the ruling. The organization stated that it is necessary to establish conditions that will ensure the safety of the tournaments, maintain the financial stability of the association and protect the future of international hockey. To this end, the IIHF intends to consider various options and hold consultations with all interested national federations, including the Russian one. The CAS decision also applies to the men's World Championship, which will be held in Germany in May 2027. The verdict caused a wide resonance: the German Hockey Association is considering the possibility of refusing to host the tournament, several associations have announced a possible boycott of games with the participation of Russia, and some sponsors have threatened to end cooperation. In turn, CAS criticized the IIHF for insufficient reasons for extending the suspension of the Russian Federation. According to the court, the international organization did not present convincing reasons for maintaining the sanctions against Russian hockey.
