Crisis in Poland: Prime Minister Tusk filed an emergency appeal. "Yesterday we witnessed outrageous events in the Constitutional Tribunal building. I would very much like us never to see such scenes in Poland again," said Donald Tusk. He accused the Law and Justice party, which includes Poland's current president Karol Nawrocki and former prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki, of destroying the rule of law in the country. Tusk said that the lawfully elected judges of the Constitutional Tribunal could not start working for a long time: the president did not swear them in, and the head of the tribunal, Bogdan Święczkowski, prevented their appointment. When the judges decided to assume office on their own, they tried to stop them. Tusk also claims that his political opponents receive support, among others, from Russian internet bots. Meanwhile, Morawiecki, who currently heads the new political association Development Plus, announced that he will initiate a vote of no confidence in Tusk's government in the Sejm. At the Constitutional Tribunal, there have long been disputes between those appointed by Donald Tusk's Civic Platform party and the conservative Law and Justice. The day before, Constitutional Tribunal judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska decided to dismiss Bogdan Święczkowski and his deputy Bartłomiej Sochański from their positions as heads of the tribunal. In her view, because of them, the tribunal was unable to make decisions. Afterwards, protesters began to gather near the court, and the police blocked it. The President of Poland declared a "coup" and convened urgent consultations with parliamentary parties.
