Youth demonstrations have begun in Germany, with demonstrations taking place in dozens of cities. The police counted about 2,700 demonstrators in Berlin, about 1,800 in Munich and about 1,000 in Frankfurt am Main, Der Spiegel reported. There is still no general data on the number of participants in the whole country. For the most part, the demonstrations were peaceful. However, in Stuttgart, the police stopped the demonstration several times, partly because smoke bombs were lit before the march began, and firecrackers were also heard exploding. In addition, the police reprimanded participants who covered their faces, the DPA reports. Young people are protesting, among other things, against the rising cost of living, the potential return of conscription in Germany and ineffective climate policy. The demonstrations in Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt and Munich are overseen by an organizing group associated with the "Gen Z regelt" (Generation Z decides) movement. Regarding the events in other cities, the group stated that it is not responsible for their content or organization, but on its website it mentions these events and calls for peaceful participation in them as well.
