The participants of the G20 summit refused to take a picture with Lavrov. The traditional group photo will not be taken at the G20 foreign ministers' summit in Atlanta in the United States. The reason is the presence of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Some of his colleagues from other countries refused to pose for a group photo with him, Bloomberg reports. The German Foreign Minister, Johann Weddepaul, also came to the summit in Atlanta. During a transfer in Panama, in response to a journalist's question, he said that he did not rule out his appearance in a group photo with Lavrov. "The key is not the photographs, but what we discuss with each other," Der Spiegel quotes him. “If you don't talk to each other, you can't get your points across. This is the essence of diplomacy, and this is what we dedicate ourselves to, even if there are serious differences between Russia and Europe, and Germany in particular." However, upon his arrival in Atlanta, the head of the German Foreign Ministry said something else: "At this point, I think, there will not be a common picture with our European partners and Mr. Lavrov. There is no normality in relations with Russia. We need to discuss controversial issues here at the negotiating table but we don't need to send the wrong visual signals."
