The situation in Elshki: is everything ready for evacuation? The humanitarian truce in the city of Alsheki in the Kherson region (in Ukrainian, Olsheki) of Russia entered into force on the third day. Neither Ukraine nor Russia has yet officially announced the start of the evacuation of residents. On October 28, the human rights commissioner of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada, Dmitry Lubintz, said that demining of routes for the delivery of humanitarian aid and the subsequent departure of civilians was still ongoing. As one of the evacuation coordinators on the Ukrainian side told DW anonymously, there is no exact agreement on the place and time of the start of the evacuation, as well as on the routes. The dates given are from October 30th to November 1st. According to the coordinators' latest data, there are about 1,700 residents left in Alsheki. For several months they have been living in the conditions of a humanitarian disaster. Meanwhile, a plane carrying representatives of the Russian and Ukrainian delegations, which take part in the humanitarian operation in Alsheki, took off from the Gomel airport in Belarus, reports the Belarusian state agency Belta. Lubintz leads the process on the Ukrainian side, and Public Complaints Commissioner Yana Lantertova handles it on the Russian side. According to the Fox News channel, the residents of Alsheki who want to return to the territory under the control of Ukraine will first be transferred to the closed Vityazovo airport near Anapa, and from there they will be transferred by a military transport plane of the Russian Ministry of Defense to Gomel and will be taken to Ukraine. It was also reported that a humanitarian cargo was planned to be delivered to Alyushki on October 30. Read more from DW.
