The Russian Federation has increased imports of prostheses from Germany 5 times since 2021. In the first half of 2026, Russia imported prosthetic limbs and endoprostheses (artificial joints) worth 79 million euros from Germany. This is almost 19 million euros more than in January-June 2025, and five times more than in the corresponding period of 2021, the Russian "Forbes" reported, citing Eurostat data. According to data from the Ministry of Labor of the Russian Federation, in 2023 the country provided more than 99.5 thousand prosthetic hands and feet to those in need, and in 2024 - already more than 152.6 thousand. Among those in need are more young people - mainly those injured in Russia's war against Ukraine, according to Rostec data cited by Forbes. Germany is the leader among the EU countries in the supply of prostheses to the Russian Federation, the total amount of which is 144.9 million euros. 55% of them are in Germany, 23% in the Netherlands and 17% in Belgium.
