The Trump administration is considering removing sanctions from Putin's "black fund", writes the New York Times. The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) is headed by Kirill Dmitriev, the special representative of Russian President Vladimir Putin in negotiations with the United States. During these negotiations, Moscow is insisting that the sanctions on RDIF be lifted so that the fund can participate in the supply of Russian diesel to the United States, sources told the newspaper. According to one of them, the US Department of the Treasury is currently examining the RDIF request to remove restrictions under normal procedures. This means that the Russian fund will have to prove that the reasons for which the sanctions were imposed are no longer valid. The administration of former US President Joe Biden imposed sanctions against RDIF on February 28, 2022, four days after the start of Russia's major invasion of Ukraine. Then in Washington it was noted that many see this fund as "Putin's black cash fund".
