80-year-old Lula da Silva was re-elected president of Brazil. The center-left incumbent head of state won the second round of the Brazilian presidential elections. Da Silva received 51.8% of the votes, his opponent - right-wing populist and senator Flavio Bolsonaro, the son of the country's former far-right president Jair Bolsonaro - 48.2%. This is the first time in the history of Brazil that the candidate who came second in the first round of voting wins the election. Da Silva will take the presidency for the fourth time (not consecutively). Meanwhile, Bolsonaro refused to admit defeat and called for the election results to be annulled, citing the extension of the voting time, the Associated Press writes. In the past, da Silva and Belsonaro asked to extend the work of the polling stations due to problems with transportation and the weather in certain regions of Brazil. Supreme Court Judge Cristiano Zanin extended the voting to just two hours and three minutes before the polls closed.
