Bulgaria failed to elect a president: the second round will take place on November 1 after processing 95.3% of the ballots, the current head of state Iliana Yutova receives 34.6% of the votes, the second result goes to former pro-Western Prime Minister Andrey Girov - 32%, no candidate received the required absolute majority, data from the country's Central Election Commission showed. The voting percentage was only 22.2%. The second round is scheduled to take place on November 1. In the last weeks before the elections, differences in positions regarding support for Ukraine arose. In October alone, four merchant ships were allegedly hit by drones off the coast of the Bulgarian Black Sea. Starlink station damaged due to arson near Sofia. Yotova and the Bulgarian government reacted with restraint to the events, without clearly assessing them or naming those responsible, which caused discontent in the country. Yutova advocated the creation of a "peace coalition", within which, she believes, Bulgaria could play a more prominent diplomatic role in ending the Russian war against Ukraine. "There are many warmongers in our country, but I am not one of them," she emphasized at one of the election rallies, and promised that "no Bulgarian soldier will go to Ukraine." Girov previously expressed support for Ukraine and in particular signed a security cooperation agreement with Kyiv when he was head of the government.
