🔶 America has imposed sanctions on eight financial companies located in Canada in relation to Iran.
The US Treasury Department said it had imposed new sanctions against eight financial services companies based in Canada and announced that the reason for this action was to "facilitate financial transactions with sanctioned Iranian institutions".
According to the Reuters news agency, these sanctions effectively cut off these companies' access to the financial system based on the US dollar. Also, any possible assets they have in the United States will be blocked and they will be prohibited from doing any kind of transaction with American persons or entities.
This action is the latest in a series of actions by the US Treasury Department against companies outside the US that Washington says are helping Iran "circumvent US sanctions". US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant said: "Canada cannot become a safe haven for illegal financial facilitators who provide sanctions evasion services to the government of Iran and groups associated with it."
