The Democrats took control of both houses of the US Congress.

The Democratic Party succeeded in wresting control of Congress in this country, both in the House of Representatives and in the Senate, from the hands of the Republicans in the US midterm elections. This result is an important political defeat for Donald Trump, the President of the United States and the Republican Party. Democrats can now face serious challenges in the last two years of his presidency.

To achieve a majority in the House of Representatives, at least 218 seats out of 435 seats are needed and in the Senate, at least 51 seats out of 100 seats are needed.

Before the election, Republicans had majorities in both houses. But Democrats also won the Senate majority by winning several Republican states, including Texas, Kansas, Iowa, South Carolina, North Carolina and Ohio. The Democrats' victory in Congress allows this party to block the Trump administration's legal plans, to conduct research and investigation into the functioning of his administration, and to play a decisive role in the process of approving appointments of judges and senior government officials.

The increase in the cost of living, the price of fuel, trade tariffs and the war with Iran were among the issues that contributed to the formation of voter dissatisfaction and the election results.
