🔶 The victory of Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic candidate, in the state of Michigan.
Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic Party candidate, defeated Mike Rogers, the Republican candidate, by winning 52% of the vote in one of the most important and close elections in the state of Michigan.
This contest, which was one of the most controversial contests during this midterm election period, was accompanied by marginalization over al-Sayed's family and religious background. He has been the target of ground attack and criticism many times because of his origin and religion, including from Donald Trump, the President of the United States.
El-Sayed, who was born and raised in the state of Michigan, began his political activity between 2014 and 2019 following the water pollution crisis in the city of Flint. In his campaign, he focused on increasing access to health care by reducing the cost of care, increasing taxes on billionaires and expanding housing construction for low- and moderate-income families.
This victory made him the first Muslim to enter the US Senate. The election contest between the Democratic and Republican candidates in Michigan was rated as one of the most expensive contests in the history of US Senate elections. During this race, tens of millions of dollars were spent by wealthy donors from both parties to support their candidates.
