Donald Trump, the US president, says that the US will stop providing financial aid to Israeli prisoners after the end of this year.
In a telephone interview with Fox News on Tuesday morning, November 3, Trump said: "Bibi Netanyahu and I have come to an agreement regarding the money we give to the captives. We give $4 billion to captives every year. "A few months ago we agreed to stop these payments."
"They have no problem with that because they have become a very successful country," he continued.
Trump added: "This cost is useless, because we have already agreed not to pay the captives until the end of this year." "If prisoners need help, we will help them."
It is not clear which financial sources Trump is referring to. However, the memorandum of understanding that every year 3.8 billion dollars guarantees US military aid to Israeli prisoners, in effect until the end of 2028.
