The German Ministry of Justice published the experts' first draft of the law to toughen the punishment for sex crimes.
Among the predictions of this plan, determining the punishment for verbal sexual harassment for the first time, as well as increasing the penalties and extending the deadline for prosecution for sexual assault offenses.
According to this plan, the time limit for committing these crimes in the future will be 20 years. Currently, these terms vary from 5 to 20 years, depending on the type of crime.
German Justice Minister Stephanie Hobig said that it must be ensured that rape cases can be prosecuted and punished even years after the crime was committed.
This politician from the Social Democratic Party of Germany also intends to increase the amount of penalties for gang rape and other sexual rape committed collectively, as well as rape that leads to the victim's pregnancy. In these cases, the minimum sentence will be five years in prison in the future, compared to two years in prison so far.
