🔶 Yatva's victory in the elections; The first elected female president in Bulgaria.
In the second round of the presidential elections, Ileana Yutova, the current interim president of Bulgaria, managed to win 57.6% of the votes and beat her rival Andrey Gavrov, becoming the first woman in the history of this country to be elected president by direct popular vote.
Andrey Gabrov, the former interim prime minister of Bulgaria, who is supported by the liberal-conservative opposition faction, won about 40% of the vote.
These elections are also considered a decisive test for the direction of Bulgaria's foreign policy, especially in dealing with the war between Russia and Ukraine. Yutova is considered a pro-Russian politician, while her opponent, Girov, mainly supports pro-Western positions.
Yotova, a former journalist and former socialist member of the European Parliament, took the job in January after the resignation of Bulgaria's then-president and current prime minister, Roman Radev. Radeff won the parliamentary elections after resigning and then took over as prime minister.
Yutova's victory will help Roman Radov, who like him wants to end the war in Ukraine through negotiations.
Although approximately 6.5 million Bulgarian citizens were eligible to vote, the participation rate in these elections is estimated to be low.
According to the polling institutes, shortly before the end of the voting, the participation was only about 29%. Despite this, it was reported that the second round of the elections was more favorable than the first round held a week ago.
