🔶 Syria is on the verge of joining the "Treaty of Mecca".

Damascus may soon join the "Mecca Defense Alliance". Syria's Foreign Minister, Asad al-Shibani, announced on Saturday, October 31 on the sidelines of a conference in Manama, the capital of Bahrain: "Discussions are now being held to assess Syria's membership in the Makkah alliance."

The Makkah Joint Defense Treaty was signed in August 2026 between Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan.

This action was a response to the Iran war that began in February this year. According to this agreement, a ground attack against any of the members is considered a ground attack against all, and the other two members are required to provide military support.

Pakistan ratified it last week, the Turkish parliament also started the ratification process.

The new government of Syria, which took power after the fall of Bashar al-Assad, is in dire need of financial assistance. Saudi Arabia is considered one of its most important supporters, and it is expected that Syria's accession to the Mecca Convention will institutionalize this support and officially place Damascus on Riyadh's side.
