Iraqi to German Chancellor: 100 billion euros is nothing.
In response to Friedrich Mertes' statement, the Iranian Foreign Minister threatened that in the event of a new war, the Iranian armed forces would deal a heavy blow to the other side.
During his trip to South Korea, the German Chancellor said, Germany has serious economic interests to end the crisis in Iran as soon as possible, and the rise in energy prices alone has caused more than 100 billion euros of damage to Europe.
In response, Abbas Iraqichi wrote on Platform X: "100 billion euros is nothing compared to the blows that Iran's strong militant armed forces will inflict on those who have the courage to harm our people."
In the same post, he mentioned Mertes' stance in support of US airstrikes and Israeli captures of Iran last year, and wrote that the German chancellor called those strikes "doing Europe's dirty work."
This position of Mertes had a wide reflection in the Iranian media.
Tehran-Berlin relations have been full of ups and downs in recent months. In early 2026, Germany gave warnings about a possible escalation of the crisis, and then resumed diplomatic negotiations with Iran in April.
