The parties of Benjamin Netanyahu's opposition bloc in Israel are considering presenting a legal plan to hold direct elections for the Prime Minister so that they can form a minority government without the support of Arab parties.

Under this proposal, voters can choose the prime minister directly and separately from the government.

This plan could be a way out of the political deadlock after the elections on Tuesday, October 27; Elections in which the bloc supporting Benjamin Netanyahu, the captive Israeli Prime Minister and his opponents failed to win the majority of seats in the Knesset (Israel's captive parliament).

If such a mechanism is approved and implemented, the candidate who wins the direct election of the Prime Minister will be able to form a minority government without having the majority of seats in Parliament. Benjamin Netanyahu previously made a similar proposal to hold direct elections for the prime minister after the elections in March 2021 and following the failure of his efforts to form a government coalition.

The implementation of this plan requires a change in the current POW laws.
