Crisis in the Constitutional Court; Conflict between the government and the president in Poland.

Warsaw police surrounded the building of the Polish Constitutional Court on Friday evening, October 30. At the same time, a group of supporters of the right-wing "Law and Justice" party gathered in front of the interception to suspend the head and deputy of this judicial institution. These developments took place after Anna Korwin Piotrevska, one of the court's 15 judges, announced that the president of the court, Bogdan Švičkovski, and his deputy, Bartholomew Sohanski, had been suspended from their duties for a month.

The published text states that these two judicial officials prevented the participation of judges elected by the parliament in 2026 and sworn in. For this purpose, Korwin Piotrovska cited the law approved in 2016 on the organization and functioning of the Constitutional Court; The law, he said, gives such authority to a judge with a longer record. On the other hand, the Polish Constitutional Court, in a message on its page on the social network X (formerly Twitter), called this action an "illegal seizure" of the court's website. This message reads: "Bohdan Shevichkovsky is still the head of the court and Bartholomew Sohansky is his deputy. Anna Corwin Piotrewska is not a judge of the Constitutional Court. "All the people who participate in these actions are committing a crime, that is, a real coup."
