🔶 At least 68 dead in a train accident in Spain; Notice of three days of public mourning.
On Thursday, October 29, the Spanish government announced three days of public mourning following a fatal accident involving two high-speed trains in that country, which left 68 dead and dozens injured. At the same time, the relatives of the victims of this accident are desperately trying to get news about their loved ones.
Officials believe that "human error" at the control center in Madrid was the cause of the accident.
Oscar Fuente, the Minister of Transport of Spain, said in this context that after the failure of a Yemeni system in the area, the two trains were initially stopped. Shortly after, the order was given to continue the movement, but the train of the Irio company did not resume its movement.
However, said Puente, one of the control center workers of Adif, the government company for the management of railway infrastructure, ordered the Ranfa train, which was behind the second train, to continue moving at normal speed.
Fuente described the decision as "inexplicable." Ten minutes after this order, the collision occurred.
Fuente added: "Our rail system is reliable and trustworthy, of course within the limitations of any transportation system."
At the same time, he refused to answer the question of whether or not he intends to resign due to the accident.
